VITA

Mr. Thomauske studied physics from 1970 to 1978 at the University of Freiburg and received his Ph.D. on high energy physics in 1983. As part of his doctoral thesis he worked from 1978 to 1980 at the CERN.

From 1983 to 2003 he worked for the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS). During this time Mr. Thomauske was head of the department "Nuclear Waste Disposal and Transport", head of the project "Approval of Interim Storage for Fuel and Heat-generating Waste" and was responsible for the repository projects "Gorleben", "Konrad" and "Morsleben" as well as for the operation of the repository Morsleben.

From 2003 to 2007 Mr. Thomauske was managing director of the Vattenfall Europe Nuclear Energy GmbH as well as for the nuclear power plants Brunsbüttel und Krümmel (Germany).

From 2008 till February 2015 he was professor at RWTH Aachen University and director at the Institute of Nuclear Engineering and Technology Transfer (NET). In addition he was director of the Institute of Energy and Climate Research – Nuclear Waste and Nuclear Safety in the Research Center Jülich from 2009 till February 2015. Mr. Thomauske is still active at RWTH Aachen University

Mr. Thomauske was a member of the research group “Selection Method for Repository Sites (AkEnd)”.

He is a member of the advisory board of VKTA Rossendorf and the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), board member of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources as well as board member of the German Atomic Forum.
